Let me preface by mentioning that the “big box stores” can be very competitive on most items. Additionally, the discounts offered by the National REIA (become a member of a local REIA) make shopping at the “big box stores” a no-brainer. If you do one rehab per year the REIA rebate pays more than the membership costs. That being said...you are better off purchasing some items from other suppliers. Below are my recommendations.

Mosaic has a large showroom which carries a variety of tiles that range from very basic, to high-end designer. Unlike the “big box” stores, Mosaic carries most of their tiles in a wide variety of sizes.
Doors
Obviously the “big box” stores are the place to go for standard off-the-shelf doors (6-panel, usually wood grain). I use smooth, 2-panel, with a roman arch top.
